The emergency services have been kept busy across the South of France this week despite it being October and the supposed start of the cooler Autumnal months! A number of fires have swept across the region, and although the weather is not to blame for all, it has certainly not eased the efforts of the firefighters.

Fires have affected several tourist areas including St Tropez, the forests of Corsica and a tunnel in Toulon which was closed after and electrical fire. A well known private beach restaurant on Pampelonne on the east coast just south of St Tropez went up in flames at around 16:30 on Tuesday 14th October. The fire ravaged at Tiki beach, a popular private beach and restaurant situated on the stunning Pampelonne beach, but was brought under control soon after by emergency services and contained to the restaurant, which saw most of the damage.

Tuesday also saw the biggest Corsican bush fire of the year, which started near Calenzana on Monday afternoon. The weather conditions were unfavourable, with strong winds fanning the flames, and a lot of the area was inaccessible for firefighters.
