Saint Tropez celebrates Brigitte Bardot
Statue inaugurated the occasion of her 83rd birthday
The Botticelli-style sculpture of former French actress and animal activist Brigitte Bardot was inaugurated yesterday, Thursday 28th September 2017, on the occasion of her 83rd birthday.
Now situated in the square in front of the Musee de la Gendarmerie et du Cinema, facing the iconic Hotel de Paris in Saint Tropez, the bronze sculpture depicts the actress as she was in the film 'And God Created Woman' from 1956. Bardot herself has not been seen in public for some years, although she remains active with the Brigitte Bardot Foundation and campaigning for animal rights in France and across the globe.
Her husband Bernard d'Ormale was, of course, present and brought with him a hand-written note from the star herself where she thanked the Tropezians "for the immense honour they offer me by offering me in my lifetime this magnificent statue that immortalizes the woman that God has created in Saint-Tropez!! It is a big THANK YOU, with tears in my eyes, that I address to all of you!! ", she wrote.
